Tel Dan and the Northern Kingdom Of Israel
Price on request ·
Duration
Approximately 4 hours
Description
Tel Dan is a central site for understanding the northern Kingdom of Israel. This full-day tour begins in Tel Dan Nature Reserve, at one of the principal sources of the Jordan River, and follows the archaeological remains of the ancient city of Dan. At the site, examine the city’s fortifications, gates, administrative areas, and ritual complex. The tour places Dan within the history of the divided Israelite monarchy, from the establishment of the northern kingdom to the Assyrian conquest in the eighth century BCE. The archaeological evidence is read alongside the Hebrew Bible and other ancient sources, with attention to what they reveal and where interpretation remains debated. Dr. Shai Schupack brings to the tour his doctorate in Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology, his work as an educator, and his experience training future licensed guides. This is a focused archaeological and historical study day, grounded in sites, sources, and landscape.
