Description
Yehiam Fortress stands on a hill in the western Galilee, above a wooded valley and within the grounds of Kibbutz Yehiam. Its ruins combine a Crusader stronghold, later Ottoman buildings, and the story of a Jewish community that defended the site during the 1948 war. A private visit can explore the fortress walls, towers, vaulted halls, mosque, and the landscape around it. The setting offers wide views toward the western Galilee and the Mediterranean, while the buildings show how each period adapted the same strategic hilltop to its own needs. The larger story is one of repeated return. Crusaders built here to control the region, Ottoman rulers reshaped the site, and in the twentieth century a new kibbutz community made the ruined fortress part of its own struggle to remain in the Galilee.
