Masada rises above the Dead Sea on a flat-topped desert mountain. Its ruins tell two very different stories: King Herod’s desert palace and the final stand of Jewish rebels against Rome. A visit can include the cable car or the Snake Path, the palace terraces, bathhouses, storerooms, synagogue, and wide views across the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea. The site’s scale and setting are as memorable as its history. The story of Masada has never stood still. It begins with a royal fortress and a Roman siege, then becomes a modern Israeli story about courage, loss, survival, and the meaning people give to the past.
