Description
Tel Hazor was one of the great cities of the ancient Near East. Its scale, fortifications, palaces, temples, and water system reveal why it was once a major centre of power in the northern Land of Israel. The site appears in the Bible and in Egyptian and Mesopotamian records. Walking through the upper city and descending into the great water system gives a sense of how important Hazor was during the Canaanite and Israelite periods. The story of Hazor takes the visitor into a world before the Bible’s kingdoms, when powerful cities ruled surrounding villages, negotiated with empires, and fought for control of the routes between Egypt, Syria, and Mesopotamia.
