Description

The Carmel Caves preserve evidence of human life reaching back hundreds of thousands of years. In the caves of Nahal Me’arot, early humans lived, hunted, made tools, and adapted to changing climates long before cities, writing, or agriculture. A visit offers an unusual perspective on the human story. The caves connect archaeology, evolution, and the Mediterranean landscape of Mount Carmel, where woodland and sea are never far away. The story begins long before the history usually told in Israel. These caves show generations of early humans adapting, moving, surviving, and gradually becoming the people we are today.
