Caesarea was built by King Herod as a grand Mediterranean port, with an artificial harbour, palace, theatre, hippodrome, temples, and aqueducts. Later, it became an important Roman, Byzantine, Crusader, and Ottoman centre. A private visit can focus on Herod’s ambition, Roman entertainment, the harbour city, early Christianity, or the changing role of the coast in the history of the region. Walk through the theatre, palace area, harbour, streets, and fortifications, then continue to nearby beaches, wineries, or historic towns if desired.
